(62,444 posts)I find it to be very disingenuous to go through the effort of digging that up, and then asking that question in feigned ignorance.

"Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton has apologized for joking that Mahatma Gandhi used to run a gas station here, saying it was ''a lame attempt at humor.''"
Did you ask your question primarily because you are ignorant, or did you ask it because you are lazy?
It took all of about a half second on Google to find the answer to your question, so I am going for some combination of ignorant and lazy.
Attention jury: the words "ignorant" and "lazy" have objective definitions.

It's remarkable that you would have come across the video without bumping into any of the information most highly associated with it, and that your curiosity seems more rhetorical than actual, given how simple a question it is to answer.

(5,402 posts)I'm all for Sanders, and Clinton annoys the heck out of me with her record and stances, but I don't see the racism. Is there a stereotype about gas stations and people from India?

(5,614 posts)I was greatly surprised, by the way, that people native to New Mexico have apparently never been exposed to 7-11 stores. The nearest kind of store like that might be the one run by Apu on the Simpsons.

(39,909 posts)That is why she can laugh about murdering hundreds of thousands of innocent Men, Women, and Children without a 2nd thought, and giggle at the torture and murder of Gaddafi.
For someone who claims to support women's rights, she didn't help the women in Libya. In addition to blowing many thousands of women and children to pieces in the most horrible ways imaginable, Hillary is responsible for setting their rights back 1000 years.
Before Hillary, Libya was the most advanced country in North Africa, and women had near equal rights, in some ways better than in the USA.
Women could own and sell property, have their own bank accounts, own businesses, drive cars,
wear blue jeans, attend (free) University, and walk the streets without a male "minder",
but NOT anymore!!!
Hillary, as SoS was one of the architects of "Regime Change" in Libya, and she supported the "rebels" (Black Flag Muslim extremist groups with ties to AlQaeda), who have imposed Sharia Law on the women of Libya.
This is one of thousands of bill boards dictating to Libyan women how they must now dress.
Thanks, Hillary. President Obama also owns a piece of this.

(63,220 posts)Maybe something like:
Listeners were shocked when Gandhi's 18 year old grandniece revealed that he'd b]slept naked beside her in the same bed.
"I thought he was chaste?" exclaimed one of in disbelief.
"Chased? Nope, not by me," said the grandniece.
And that's how you bring the house down.

(9,086 posts)A joke like this about another ethnic group could have ended her career. Like a joke about Jewish people being stingy or something, I'm guessing would have hurt more.
