(3,764 posts)it's a perfectly good word for black - black cat, black shirt, black table. I think in English not so much.

(2,389 posts)When black people support HRC in the face of Bill Clinton's policies that have been so destructive to the AA community...it reminds me so much of the Tea Party voters who vote against their own best interests.
It saddens me, how well-meaning people get manipulated in this way.

(12,977 posts)That's something I haven't heard before, but it struck me as significant -- in part because the idea that blacks are just low-information voters who are going on name recognition is awfully condescending.
What I get from it is that middle class blacks in particular are still motivated by a desire to be just like anyone. To live out the American dream in a color-blind society. To turn their backs on "ghetto" culture and prove that they can meet the standards of white society. And Hillary in some weird way has become identified with all of that, while Bernie's more left-wing policies -- and even his association with the early days of the civil rights movement -- are a reminder of everything they're trying to leave behind?
Could I be right about this, or am I making too much of one passing remark?
