The major rationale that I heard for not primarying Obama in 2012 was that 'just think of what Obama can do in a second term'....

Further, should Sanders not prevail, the Supreme Court will be the major rationale of why we have to support Hillary....

to call republicans' bluff. i think the idea is not to actually nominate him, but simply to drop the name at this point to lure some republican senators into saying they *would* give a hearing and a vote for a *republican* nominee.

once he's gotten republicans to say that, he's in a better position to nominate anyone and insist on a confirmation hearing.

Moreover, it may hurt Republicans re-election chances if they're seen denying a Hispanic even a right to be voted on, and it could help the Democratic Presidential nominee in later winning Nevada

republicans aren't going to confirm anyone unless and until it's obvious a democrat is going to win in november, which most likely won't be "obvious" to them until at least the day after the election.

what he's doing is politicking, illustrating the hypocrisy and idiocy of republican intransigence. hopefully it scores him and democrats in general a few points, but it's hard to imagine any scenario in which republican confirm an obama nominee at this point.

they may get a confirmation hearing, but that will get dragged out and eventually either there will be no vote or the nominee will be voted down.

All on DU that are jumping into President Obama's shit, you do know that the GOP has already rejected Sandoval. Stop your crybaby bullshit. Obama can put up Scalia himself and the GOP would reject him. Face it, this black president will never get a fair shake from the right wing.....

President Obama Just Made A Skillful Chess Move – GOP Takes The Bait Like Candy

"Politics is kind of like chess. Sometimes you make a move and that forces your opponent (in this case a Republican Congress) to respond accordingly. Well, President Obama just made a move, and it is causing quite the stir on Capital Hill. And, predictably, the GOP just took the bait without fully thinking through the repercussions.
Here’s what’s going down: President Obama is considering nominating the Republican Governor of Nevada, Brian Sandoval, to the Supreme Court according to The Washington Post. Now, before you become completely outraged that he would even think of such a thing, consider this: in a game of chess sometimes you make a move to make your competition believe that you’re up to something when in reality you have something else planned. In this case, it doesn’t matter. Why? Because it’s brilliant, that’s why."

23. Obama should nominate Homo. Mitch McConnell

Feb 2016

But it is highly unlikely that Obama could
find a qualified homonymous Mitch McConnell.

Back in 40 bc the triumvirate in negotiations
with Sextus Pompeius agreed to make Sextus Pompeius
a consul in 35 bc. The Roman consul of 35 bc was
an Homonymous Sextus Pompeius keeping the
Triumvirs good at their word.
They had lied to the real Sextus Pompeius and
went to war and Sextus was killed in 35 bc,

(My years may be off but not by much) and I am
trying to be funny.
