as a persistent southerly gale off the coast of Norway pumped a lot of warm air into the Arctic. It might have been related to El Nino, but that still qualifies it more as one season's weather rather than a harbinger of permanent change.

It's still very disquieting since the Arctic ice sheet was thin enough for the gale to have had such a massive effect for the whole season, even after it had mostly dissipated.

And why don't we hear a lot more about the impending climate change disaster? Two reasons: first, look who owns the media; second, it's going to be a slow motion disaster with flooded streets at high tide gradually turning into flooded streets permanently. There's no drama in that and we all know that if it doesn't bleed, it doesn't lead.
