(4,176 posts)Would that mean the justice system of that state could hold people criminally responsible for cheating on their spouse?

(86,774 posts)They can't, even if it is state law, it is blatantly a violation of 1st Amendment's establishment clause. A judge cannot rule based on religious tenets, period, lest they find the ruling contested all the way to SCOTUS if need be.
Then chicken won't fly.

We be so fucked
2naSalit
(86,774 posts)would be unfortunate, but I don't think that's what will happen. Too much at stake and enough know about it. Besides, the data dump game is just getting started. I suspect that the majority of tantrum activity will be taking place on the other side of the aisle. Don't be swayed by a skewed MSM and all the misinformation campaigns out there.

(4,176 posts)and then act in such a non liberal manner?
What makes us liberals is we act for the best interests of those who need help the most.
Not voting in November is a direct assist to those who wish to do great harm.

(86,774 posts)which must be some new interpretation like the mormons have and as long as he's not called out on it, he will keep saying stupid shit. Stupid shit works on the stupid who voted him into office. His wife just left him btw.

(7,403 posts)That is always the problem with the likes of Bentley. With their God there are no consequences because there is always forgiveness for their criminal acts but consequences for everybody else's criminal acts. And it is God's will that such a double standard exists. Indeed, it reminds me of Gandhi when he is purported to have said "I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians because they are so unlike your Christ" and that describes Bentley to a tee.

(100,100 posts)Because they just don't care. They day they're doing this "for the children" but then they go out and commit some horrifying acts. But then they'll "pray for forgiveness" and everything will be better. We got to stop electing these fucking assholes.

(16,296 posts)who are we to say he's an asshole. Of course, I'd like to hear it directly from God - which begs the question, "How will we know God will forgive him?" Will Bentley have a dove come rest on his shoulder? Will he walk on water? Will he be reelected (of course he will).

(35,701 posts)There is that thing about coveting your neighbor's wife. Hopefully the cuckolded husband wasn't his neighbor.

(11,087 posts)Is it OK to covet a stranger's wife? I think I see a loophole.

(441 posts)"Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's."
So what about the manservant? Can he covet the maidservant's ass?

It wouldn't even bother me that he is involved in this act...what bothers me, is that he (and the others like him) like to wear morality and family values on his sleeve while he himself chooses to behave otherwise!!

(24,032 posts)Fascinating how those compassionate concepts get "left behind." The mean-spiritedness of what I have come to call squeaky wheel Christians is mind-boggling. Jesus would not approve.

(45,251 posts)used Abraham to found Judaism, married his half-sister and had his first child with her maid.
David, so beloved of God that God Joseph traced his lineage to David, had a bit of a harem and a wandering eye.
What is most dangerous about The Family, IMO, is that they believe the laws of man and God do not apply to those "called" to lead. Recall then Governor Sanford muttering about King David when Sanford got caught cheating on "the Applachian trail." David, of course, caught sight of Bathsheba bathing, fell in "love' and then tried to have her husband killed in battle.

(18,470 posts)...but they mentioned that years ago a landlord refused to rent an apartment to her and her black fiancee. Not because they were an interracial couple. Because they were not married at the time. A couple weeks later the couple had married and went back to the landlord, who had no problem whatsoever renting to them.

(4,292 posts)As a fan of satire, I appreciate this incongruity. I likewise appreciate how DU relies on as revenue from ad-bots.
Methinks the algorithm of the adbot needs tweaking just a bit.
Or not. As one so easily amused, I can ignore web ads.
