4. I really like David Packman.....

he reminds me of Rachel Maddow in that he retains a very cool demeanor but is rational and persistent in calling this guy out.

On healthcare this dude is smoking something really good. Socialized medicine is when the doctors and the hospitals and all related services associated with health care are owned and run by the government, i.e. health care workers are government employees and health care facilities are government property. What we have under Medicare and Medicaid is a government-run insurance program that pays PRIVATE hospitals and doctors for providing services. This is not socialized medicine. Further he cannot explain why making 32M people buy private insurance is socialism.

On gay marriage he is spot on....the argument is purely religious in origin and will eventually lose.

On the death penalty he is a nutcase. He first says there are studies that show it does not deter capital crimes then he says it does. Then he says he thinks it probably does deter crime. Then he says there haven't been that may cases where an innocent person has been incarcerated and/or put to death. To the contrary, such evidence is what led Illinois to suspend death sentences and then to fully abolish the death penalty as a possible sentence.

It is amazing this guy could write a book. I suspect he is a Sarah Palin-like writer - have someone else write the book for you. I will NOT be buying his book.

5. These are the kind of interviews I like

Both people are civil; no talking over each other, etc. I think David makes a mistake in assuming that because he's liberal and the guy is libertarian, there's never going to be things they agree on when it came to the issue of gay marriage. A true libertarian does not want government telling anyone they can't do anything so it makes sense for him to be pro-gay marriage. His inability to talk coherently about "socialized" medicine as well as betraying his libertarian beliefs in supporting the death penalty is where the focus should have been, and David did an okay job.

These are the kind of interviews you see on Daily Show and to an extent, Colbert, except without humor. It's apparent that David learns the source material before so he can talk intelligently about it.

7. David wins. Not just a debate, he just wins in general.

A reasonable, well-informed, and non-violent debate. The author, I think, took his defeat honorably.
Really grilled him about the mandate and the constant "SOCIALISM!!!" coming from the right. Seems a bit more like corporate fascism to me. Socialism would be "By the way, everyone's covered regardless of pre-existing conditions and we had to jack your taxes up 2% to cover it."

I'm getting really sick of interviews where the guest is completely full of shit. This is what I say to republicans now on a regular basis out in public, "You're full of shit". I don't debate them, I don't offer them the facts, I don't try to argue with them. I simply look at them and say, "You're full of shit". Then I go about my business. I've had enough of republicans.

13. That fellow needs to take one of those racquets down off the wall behind him...

And beat himself over the head with it.

Put it to good use (both the racquet and the head).
