Should be particularly easy and valuable to show humanity and grace when you are winning or so sure that you will.

Most appalling to me has been the so-called lefty pundits and journos that have jumped on this bandwagon.

There's no way that you can get me to believe that any of things that were reported happened at that convention without the slightest bit of video evidence to back up the claims.

I really wonder where this chair throwing b/s claim started.
I've never expected much out of Feinstein.
Expected much more from Boxer. Guess it's good Boxer isn't running again.

I'm kind of glad the DEM high command is as dumb as they are.... because they most probably would have managed to put Bernie away long before now if they weren't.
Unhappily, I think Trump is going to eat them for breakfast. Probably not a good thing long term for the country or for planet Earth.

That doesn't sound like Debbie is working for us, but rather for the Republicans

People YELLING because the damned process was " target="_blank">GROSSLY UNDemocratic is understandable. LIES about "violence and chair throwing" just to smear Sanders' campaign is inexcusable, Goebbels-style propaganda. And ALL THE CORPRAT MEDIA CATAPULTED it and has been for a WEEK.
THAT'S why.
Because it's BULLSHIT and outright LIES.

(108,990 posts)Because it is indisputable that he did that.
It's on the video that these women mentioned.
So other people stopped him from throwing the chair. But he obviously scared people into thinking he was about to throw it. Otherwise, why was he raising that chair over his head?
And how would you have felt if you were one of the people standing in front of him?
thesquanderer
(11,990 posts)which a Hillary supporter did (Wendell Pierce, arrested for assault).
Both sides have some people who don't know when to stop.
Was Pierce Hillary's responsibility?
Has she spoken about it? (I genuinely don't know.)
pnwmom
(108,990 posts)The man with the chair was part of a whole group of Bernie delegates who were screaming misogynous insults at women like Barbara Boxer.
I wasn't aware that Pierce was there or that he was a delegate. Is he even from Nevada? Or is he a delegate in another state?
thesquanderer
(11,990 posts)They didn't have to be at the same place at the same time.
And only one side, as far as I know, has a supporter who actually assaulted someone. Which I'd say is a bit worse than momentarily raising a chair, or hurling an insult. (And if you're going to take the candidates to task for over-the-top insults from their supporters, DU has provided both candidates with enough ammunition there to keep them plenty busy.)
pnwmom
(108,990 posts)and some kind of argument between the two couples, and an ongoing court matter.
And it had nothing to do with the fracas at the caucus. Or the man with the chair raised above his head who is clearly visible in the video.
thesquanderer
(11,990 posts)But similarly, apparently one guy lifting a chair and putting it back down got blown into "chairs were being thrown." If that's the most "violent" thing that happened, while regrettable, it is not worth throwing anyone's campaign into a tizzy.
pnwmom
(108,990 posts)at the caucus was toxic, and aggressive, and threatening.
The Bernie people, for example, reacted with fury to Barbara Boxer's speech. Well, she had a right to give that speech, as the keynote person introducing Hillary. THERE WAS ALSO another keynote speech introducing Bernie, given by Nina Turner. And the Hillary people did NOT scream slurs at Nina or block her image from being seen on the screen. The Hillary delegates didn't try to cut Nina off or make her shorten her speech.
Why did the Bernie people feel ENTITLED to emerge from State with more delegates than Hillary, even though Hillary decisively won the initial set of caucuses -- the largest, most inclusive caucuses -- over Bernie? Why were they so outraged that their own efforts to "rig the system" at the county level ultimately didn't cause them to prevail? At the county level, not all the Hillary delegates turned up, and Clark County temporarily flipped. But that was NEVER going to be the final result, because the State was going to determine that. And at the State Caucus, 98% of the Hillary people did show up but only 78% of the Bernie people. Why is that a more "rigged result" than what happened at County, when Clark County got flipped -- against the will of the February voters?
I agree with anyone who thinks caucuses should be replaced with primaries. They are messy, frustrating, non-inclusive, and incredibly time-consuming affairs. I've been arguing that we should replace them ever since I went to my first caucus more than 20 years ago. But Bernie overall worked the caucus system extremely well. He did far better in them than in primaries, where he lost the majority even of open primaries. So if anyone benefited from a "rigged system" it was Bernie -- except in the final result of the Nevada caucus, which just brought him back to the same delegate outcome that was predicted based on February caucus results.
I blame Bernie's campaign for the disruption. They set up their delegates to feel that the system was someone's to steal, and it was the Bernie delegates' job to steal it for Bernie. They didn't explain to them that the rules weren't some new set dreamed up to hurt Bernie -- that most had been in place since at least 2008 and were designed to deal with the need to include more than 4,000 people. And they required a 2/3 vote to amend -- which would never happen because Bernie only controlled about half of the delegates. Why was that so difficult to understand? Was the Bernie campaign that ignorant, or did they just choose to keep their delegates angry, and in the dark?

(28,082 posts)but one man raising a chair above his head and being stopped by others does equal "chairs being thrown" - which is what we've been hearing.

They want to lie about Bernie. They need to lie about Bernie. They intend to use these lies in order to convince voters that it were to be okay that Bernie loses. Later, it will be the same for Hillary losing the general election.

(1,178 posts)Snopes has investigated and said there is no evidence that this occurred. Expect an apology from DWS, Jon Ralston, Roberta Lange, MSNBC, NY Times and the Hillay supporters who spread this rumor any minute now in the interest of party unity and truthfulness. Just kidding. They won't.

(22,666 posts)The claim is really a LIE meant to smear Sanders on election night. It's become a pattern in these primaries.
What galls me is that it was unnecessary. The few delegates involved will make no difference in the end. However, it has caused even more Bernie supporters to question whether we can ethically support Hillary, or whether this is the appropriate time to allow the Third Way Democratic to crash and burn so our party can be reborn as the progressive party it used to be. This is yet another of the self-inflicted errors that Hillary campaigns make. When she turns to the right to try to get Republican voters, she will lose even more of our support. She truly doesn't seem to understand what we want- a fair process and a progressive agenda, not the "least-worst" conservative candidate.
