Mike Malloy - Millions More Americans Now Eligible For Overtime Pay

The White House revealed details Tuesday of its most sweeping action to fight income inequality since President Barack Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law. And unlike Obamacare, it will require no input from Congress.

Moving to fatten low- and middle-income paychecks that have languished for years, the Obama administration on Tuesday unveiled a long-awaited rule that will make millions of Americans newly eligible for overtime pay.

While some businesses welcome the measure, many say it will simply force them to reshuffle salaries to get around the regulation. Others fear it will mean demoting white-collar workers and altering workplace culture.

you got time and a half for more than 40 hours, and you got double time for working days like Xmas.

The first time I heard about making a regular worker a subcontractor was about 2000.

I admit, I didn't realize the attack on the middle class until then, but I have learned a lot. The bastards will keep screwing wage workers at every turn. I hope we can change it back to what is fair. Though I was never a Republican, for a short time I bought into some of their bullshit...never again.

and the new designation "professional" was created. Before that you had to actually be a manager to be exempt. Someone can correct me if I have the dates wrong but I think it was in the 90s.

She was a wage worker, and it was great, because she did so much time there, most times 60 or better hours/week. It got us out of a bad financial situation. They almost classified her as supervisor, but it worked out great for us.

I guess we just were lucky.

Although, like Mike said, it's still not enough. But you have to start somewhere and do what is possible right now.
