(3,839 posts)Korea? Mongolia? Laos? Uzbekistan? China?
My wife is a Chinese national. 她的老家是丹阳在江苏. Lumping all people from Asian in one neat little group really pisses me off.
I've lived all over Asia for 10 years (Korea, China and Malaysia). SE Asian is different from East Asian, which is different from South Asian, Central Asian and western Asian.
Which Asian? Which language, culture and customs?
Annyonghasaeyo? Ni Hao? Sawadee ka?

(3,839 posts)And in China, most of them don't like being called Asian. And, yes. . .Oriental is beyond offensive to them.
他们是中国人,不是东方人。

(41,832 posts)lots of room to park your car though! The thing is I am not bothered by being known as Asian in the USA. There are so many of us... I mean its better than being called other names... (racist insults) and we don't really fit into other groups... we're not white...black, Hispanic... we have things in common like eating Rice and Noodles...but we don't want to be called "Rice Eaters"..everyone eats rice.. at one time or another.
So.. until someone comes up with a better term...(Its nice for me to be known as Japanese-American, but since the average person can't tell where we are from... or where our ancestors came from...) Asian is fine.
