Don't underestimate Trump; He has a more powerful personality than Hillary and will Defeat her; unless the Democrats nominate Sanders. It's often not the issues; but the personalities.
Watch for yourself:
Watch the Trump Chamelion actually turn "Progressive" to Beat Hillary

(3,128 posts)What I have been saying from Day 1.
The Democrats seem to just want to lose these days otherwise why would DWS still be the chair of the DNC?

Hillary and the Dems will beat him.

(50,560 posts)A simple four-pronged attack will do it.
Prong 1: Turn his perceived strengths into demonstrable weaknesses. Trump is not actually that great of a businessman. He has made a lot of money - but he's lost at least as much. And he's left a shitload of victims behind him...who would be more than happy to get in front of a TV camera and rip Mafia Don's head off.
Prong 2: He doesn't have a "powerful personality." He's a classic schoolyard bully. Once you peel away his shell of assholishness, he's a wimp inside. Hillary will strip it away in the first debate.
Prong 3: Skeletons in the closet: Trump has many, and Hillary knows what they are.
Prong 4: Trump is a dangerous man for this dangerous time. He hates the entire world and they're not all that fond of him. His plan to have Mexico pay for a border wall can only be accomplished by going to war with Mexico, for instance. America can't afford to be a pariah, which we will be under Trump.
All Hillary need do to take the presidency is hold all the states Obama carried in 2012, and I doubt she'll do that badly.

(162 posts)actual issues? If Sanders were the nominee, he'd focus on issues and so would his supporters, as they have from the beginning. Sick to damn death of identity politics, especially when we have so many fundamental issues we have to address but, with "moderates" like Clinton and jokes like Trump, won't. Also, how will that improve her unfavorables or the fact that she isn't trusted? The fact is that these are the two most disliked major party nominees in history (if they get the nominations) and this election is going to be horribly negative. So, however much people don't like them now, they'll like them less when it is all said and done. Whichever candidate limps to the finish line, they'll have zero political capital.

(18,634 posts)This is a better way to fight Trump.
Hillary is much more wishy-washy wash on specific issues.
But even Bernie would have deal with the psychological tricks Trump is expert at and I'm not sure he would be good at deflecting them.
Obama might be able to, he knows how to take charge of a conversation, but he can't run.

(50,560 posts)I think you read the New York Daily News interview. When they tried pinning him down on any of the things he wants to do, the answer was always some form of "I don't know," "I'll have to get back to you on that" or something similar. The easiest one is the Big Bank Breakup he wants. His justification is basically precrime: they MIGHT collapse the economy if they fail, so we have to break them up. That isn't even constitutional, nor does it stand a realistic chance of getting through Congress. He doesn't know how he'd break them up, doesn't know what they'd look like once they were broken up, and has no idea whether the "cure" would be worse than the "disease" - and it would be.
Bernie is good at finding what he sees as problems. He's awful at finding solutions to those problems.
Hillary may not be as good at finding problems as Bernie, but she can come up with reasonable solutions to them.
Trump? That cocksucker created half the problems all by himself!

(18,634 posts)Personally I don't think either Bernie or Hillary have the charisma, wit, and mastery of politics that Obama has. The Democratic candidate could sure use those qualities In this election.

(23,957 posts)there's a whole lot of people who don't vote on issues at all, they vote on image. across party lines, across demographics, they'll vote based on image and perceived character attributes.
DJT is a very skilled manipulator of public perception, hence the idea that he has a big advantage regardless of issues. plus he's following a coherent strategy of self-promotion and targeted branding, whereas HRC is following a "strategy" of self-destruction. thus, the video's author put a $1000 bet on DJT winning the general, despite not planning on voting for DJT himself.
go back to Carter v. Reagan in 1980 -- what the hell did that election have to do with issues, other than the ones Reagan's bunch arranged to take precedence in October? take HRC's damaged brand, mix it with DJT's ability to craft a popular message, and throw in the GOP's dirty tricks apparatus, and there's a real danger that we end up with president Trump next year.

(18,634 posts)She hasn't demonstrated stellar debating skills. She always sounds rehearsed and forced which will not be effective next to Trump.

(18,634 posts)And I've had that sinking feeling for a long time and also think Hillary is going to lose big time.
I don't want her to lose but the video's that she is reacting instead of a taking charge is right on. We are going to see Trump 50 times as often as Hillary on TV and if her Web site pushes Trumps name around its only more publicity for him.
Even Bernie would have a difficult time with this guy.
Sorry but I'm pretty sure we will be living under President Trump next year.

(21 posts)Yes, agree. His personality is so overpowering that he will walk all over her in a debate.
Plus, Bernie is always polling higher than Hillary when nationally up against Trump.
Speaking of important videos, I am really surprised the following video for Bernie hasn't gone somewhat viral.Really well done by M. Biedermann.
A "Wake Up America" Vid you might say.

(4,522 posts)the mainstream is asleep at the wheel.
You have trump, running as an outsider and anti-establishment for change - that defeated 16 "establishment" drones. Never mind he's a fraud and will never abandon his class base. He would be the worst in terms of anything for anyone except the rich.
You have Bernie, who came from NOWHERE and made up 60 points as an outsider and anti-establishment for change. And he's the real deal, but he's running on a wave of people waiting for someone like him.
Now you have the feaking libertarian party polling at something like 10%. Again, outsider and anti-establishment for change - who would probably be free market crazies delivering anything but change.
There is more to it than trump. They cannot see that there is a major shift out there that wants something ELSE than business as usual.
And the democrats field the candidate that is probably the most establishment, same-old-same-old in history. With negatives thru the floor. Times are changing and THEY DO NOT GET IT.

(3 posts)I am so scared that his man may become president.
I think Scott Adams may have something there. I wish the Democrats would get it together. Neo-Liberalism doesn't work.
Trickle down - free trade kills jobs. hellooo?
but most people dont have time to know about all of that.
I saw Scott Adams on Bill Maher and the great charlatan may just win, because he repeats himself
and makes you feel good by saying things you want to hear.
