But the newspaper added, "Sanders said he held off supporting either of the Democrats [Obama or Clinton] because he has made it a custom not to support any Democrat for the presidential nomination until the party had chosen its nominee."
It doesn't matter how he said it, he knew it was just the chosen "presumptive" nominee until the convention. And yes...lots of delegates and politicians endorse candidates when the majority has voted and a 'presumptive nominee' is called by the media.
He still knew the rules and they applied then as they do today. Hillary had the right to contest that race, she just chose not to.
It's no surprise that he wanted to endorse Obama over Hillary anyway. He probably knew Obama was establishment, but also knew that he was a little less a neocon than Hillary. He know about Hillary's love of war and global domination, and he hadn't seen that in Obama.
I'm surprised he didn't endorse sooner.

(8,175 posts)4. Lots of people do that,to not skew the election.
It's actually the only moral way to do it...but I understand why some come out sooner...some come out early to determine the race (like the supers who came out right away in support of Hillary, before the race even started), and some come out early in defense of the candidate who is being beaten up by the supers who came out right away.
I wish they were not allowed to say who they favored until the election, as all they do is screw up everything. We need to get rid of superdelegates.
