I can't imagine what it would be like to not see color in the way I do. The closest I can get is that my glasses really mess with my depth perception, so that when I take them off it's like BAM! The world is all of a sudden 3 dimensional with way, way more depth than I'm used to seeing (and a lot blurrier) It is occasionally striking how much of a difference that makes, but it's got to be peanuts to the change that these folks see.

. . . in WWII, when he went to join the army, the army wouldn't take him because of it. The navy, however, didn't mind.
