4. I get this and at it was quite timely when this episode aired.

Julia Sugarbaker was an outspoken liberal character on the TV show Designing Women. If I recall correctly, Marla Maples may have appeared on this episode but I'm not sure about that. But when this aired, Trump was in the news for being the pig that he is. It was great! Thanks for reminding me of this diabeticman.

5. IIRC, the character was liberal, but the woman playing her not.

Dixie Carter was, in fact, a Republican. I'll bet she'd have crossed over, though, had she survived:

Dixie Carter supposedly had a deal with Bloodworth that she would get to sing on the show if she made those "liberal" statements. Still, I loved her character and thought she played her with style. So sad that she and "Anthony" are gone.
