(49,013 posts)Just because you are a fully informed high information voter does not mean every voter seeing the graphic is equally paying attention.
The quote is true, but the picture lies when it is paired up with the quote.
We don't have to twist things like that. The ends do not justify the means. Further, Trump's statement is enough. A picture from the actual speech would not have the problems.
No need to give Trump supporters material to shoot the graphic down. "He didn't mean that and he didn't pretend to shoot and see how Democrats twist the truth" sways more soft voters than if the Trumpeteers are limited to "He didn't mean that". (Of course he meant it.)
Never interrupt the opponent when they are making a mistake; that is to say in politics, don't give them an opening to change the conversation.

(135,425 posts)This isn't a public square. It's a website with rules. Everyone here is singing from the same sheet music.
I don't think we need to be overly "concerned" over the clever images that an admin provides us with for our sophisticated amusement. Literal shit is for morons, and we're not morons. The picture is not a "LIE" -- it's a snarkily amusing representation of what that orange asshole is actually thinking.
Spend a little less time worrying about him and his supporters, why doncha? They certainly don't worry about Democrats.
As for Trump supporters? Fuck them. I don't care what they think and I don't worry about their fee-fees. Anyone who could support that asshole doesn't deserve my time or empathy.

Go ahead, stand on your modem and try, like Kings Canute and Xerxes commanding the waves of the seas, to command the graphic to not be seen beyond DU.

(135,425 posts)You seem terribly overwrought about a graphic that is clearly constructed for political amusement.
This isn't next to the NYT article on the matter.
Perspective--it's what most people have.

(135,425 posts)clever. I sure as hell don't express such a lame level of "concern" over something that anyone with an iota of common sense would regard in the satirical light in which it was offered.
Do you think the covers of MAD MAGAZINE are "real" too?
Look around you--it's like you're the only square peg at the round peg party.
Bernardo de La Paz
(49,013 posts)The satire of the post is not the problem, as was explained to you earlier.
You can take your in-group elitism and stuff it in an appropriately round hole, since that is the metaphor you have chosen.

(135,425 posts)Do you think this is "real" too? That the Donald has a hinge on the side of his head? That this is an accurate representation of a specific moment in time?

Are the Big Wigs at Mad Magazine engaging in "In Group elitism" too? Should they stuff it in THEIR "round hole" as well?
SmDh!!! Your way or the highway, eh?
Most of us here are clever enough to "get it." You are the ONLY one in this thread who is having trouble--notice that? Since you're so observant and all....?
I sure do.

Trump has a completely inappropriate sense of humor. I enjoy a sick joke as much as the next person, but you simply can't joke about shooting people in a country with 180 million guns, and be president at the same time.
I'm not sure if he meant shooting Hillary, or shooting any judges she might nominate to the SCOTUS, but I suspect the former. Either way, can you imagine this moron in delicate negotiations with Russia or China, and making an off-hand threat like this? It could get us into a shooting war.

(6,241 posts)But anyone would have to be stupid to believe it. If he meant "You need to get out there and vote to protect your second amendment rights!" he would have said that. But his "maybe there is, I dunno" was more like "Maybe your wife doesn't make it home tonight. Maybe she gets mugged, and something goes wrong. Happens all the time."
Anyone that doesn't think he meant exactly that is lying, and is agreeing with him.
