The war in Afghanistan (or the American war in Afghanistan) is the period in which the United States invaded Afghanistan after the September 11 attacks. Supported initially by close allies, they were later joined by NATO beginning in 2003. It followed the Afghan Civil War's 1996–2001 phase.

It's the Donald Trump Technique (though he is far from the first): Make your point by making statements that sound vaguely plausible whether or not they are true. Then when called out, just steamroller onward with more nonsense.

Watch out for this technique in the debates. Trump will try to flatten Hillary with a dumpster full of garbage and keep piling more garbage on no matter what she says. He will try to win voters by looking sincere and forceful. The "strong man" persona.

Then afterwards his spox will walk back and restate and further muddy the water so completely that low information people will be bamboozled.

It is all aimed at an emotional effect.

Sat Aug 13, 2016, 02:04 PM
Aug 2016

Katrina claims this time machine allowed him to go back in time to 2004 and make himself President. She claims (President) Barrack Obama changed the rules of engagement in Iraq in 2004, therefore HE is the one who was responsible for the death of Ghazala & Khizr Khan's son, Humayun Khan, a war hero in Iraq.

This is also the video that started #KatrinaPiersonHistory trending at the top of Twitter for two whole days. Skip to 2:47 if you don't want to listen to her spin.

And here is the video where CNN tries to get her to apologize for her mistake. She still blames (President) Barack Obama for it, and tries to act like the issue is something else. NO one is trying to blame Trump, but she keeps saying over and over things like, "How can we possibly put any of the onerous on Donald Trump?" (sic)

She is being deliberately obtuse to distract from her mistake and her lack of historical knowledge. It is hard to watch, I know. It is frustrating that she is somehow rewarded with a national spokesperson position for being good at obfuscating the truth and spreading truthiness, rather than being good at informing the public about what the actual truth is.

This one has 400k views.

Haha, I'll be spending some time on Twitter for the next day or two. This is too fun.

Now, if I believed I lived in a reality-based world, I'd believe that a national spokesperson could lose her job over repeated mistakes of this caliber. I'm not holding my breath here, but this one seems pretty serious. We'll see what happens next...

Manafort won't fire her for being so bad at her job. He probably gave her a raise.

https://www.texastribune.org/2016/08/15/katrina-pierson-trump-campaign/

WASHINGTON — Just about the only person on Donald Trump's presidential campaign who can overshadow the boss and keep her job is Katrina Pierson — the Texan and Trump spokeswoman who has made waves over a pair of embarrassing on-air flubs.

But the failed GOP congressional candidate-turned-Trump emissary, who hails from the Dallas suburbs, told The Texas Tribune that her batting average is just fine, and blamed technical snafus for statements that suggested she had little grasp of current events, let alone foreign policy.

“You could take ten years of history and try to make anyone look crazy,” she said.

<...>

But the criticism of her has been brutal and swift.

Trump opponents have dismissed her audio explanations, starting the social media campaign #KatrinaPiersonHistory to sarcastically blame Obama for historic events like the Hindenburg explosion.

And they've resurfaced a Sept. 13, 2012 tweet where Pierson wondered if 9/11 was “an inside job.” Pierson told the Tribune she was referring to the Benghazi attacks, which took place two days before the tweet, on Sept. 11, 2012.

Those thinking Pierson's days on the trail are numbered better settle in.

“Katrina is a valuable member of our team,” Trump spokesman Jason Miller said on CNN Sunday. “We’re glad to have her onboard. She’s onboard pretty early with Mr. Trump. As you heard her say, there was some audio difficulties hearing that question.”

And one former cable booker said no matter what Pierson says, networks have an obligation to put her on air to ensure equal coverage of the presidential candidates.

"They can’t just put on Clinton people," said the former booker, who declined to be named in this article. "That’s who Trump is giving them and that’s who they are putting on."

<...>

CNN-MSNBC-Take your pick of anchors, they have all taken turns taking Trump Spokeswretch Katrina Pierson over the falls on a variety of subjects. They have doggedly dragged her back on point when she obfuscates, and they have almost ridiculed her for some of her responses. Yesterday, she got so excoriated that she literally was almost screeching, I completely expected her to snarl “I’ll get you, and your little dog too!”. That woman is seriously starting to crack under the pressure, and she deserves every second of it.

CNN-Jake Tapper had a panel with Kayleigh McEneny, Van Jones and Bill Kristol. Wisely Jones was in between the other two. Tapper had to do very little, they savaged each other without him. Kristol berated Hugh Hewitt for trying to throw Trump a lifeline, saying that Trump was an embarrassment who didn’t deserve one. NcEneny launched into a full throated defense of Trump, his words and his honor. Kristol put a pitying smile on his face and said, “Kayleigh, I understand you supporting your candidate, but can you honestly sit there and say you’re proud to support Trump?”. Kayleigh got all offended and said something like “Yes! I am proud to support Donald Trump, he is a man of principles!”. Kristol threw his hands in the air and said “Kayleigh, how can you sit there and say that?! How can you say that about a man that you wouldn’t let into your personal life for one minute?! He’s a bully, he’s sexist and he’s a racist! How can you say that?”. Van Jones just sat in the middle, hands lightly clasped and smiling like a cat that just got a whole quart of cream. Tapper saved McEneny further embarrassment by going to break.

CNN-Poppy Harlow had a panel with Ana Marie Cox and Boris Epshteyn. Boris started spouted silly, debunked excuses about Trump. Cox raised a finger and opened her mouth, but didn’t interrupt. When Poppy turned to her, Ana Marie put up a finger and told Poppy, “Before you ask me anything I want to respond to Boris. I am not a paid surrogate. I’m not a Trump supporter, and I didn’t support Hillary in the primaries. I’m a journalist, and you’ve got me sitting here trying to debate a paid shill who can’t even stay on point?”. Then she turned on Epshteyn and shredded him like the branch chopper scene in “Fargo”. Through it all Epshteyn just sat there, hands folded, with a blank, vapid, serene smile on his face. he was getting paid after all.

That is just a quick recap. I’m sure there was probably more that I missed. The point is, and I made this point in another diary a couple of days ago, when is enough enough. Whatever Trump is paying these people, it can’t be enough, in the army they’d be getting hazardous duty pay. At what point do these people finally have to defend their own honor, and jump off of the rapidly sinking Trump sloop if they ever hope to have enough integrity to work on another campaign for another candidate? But for a serious political junkie, the “silly season” just got a whole lot more entertaining!
