(26,266 posts)Seriously - who the hell would be able to use up those gigantic buckets of sludge, before they turned fatally toxic?
I think old Rev. Jim's sand is fast running out of his hourglass.

(16,254 posts)The second was what would people do with that bucket of slop? My third was The Donald and his followers.
Very few of those people were cheering him on. They looked frightened (which Bakker is good at pulling off), but not convinced the soup was the way to go. I wonder how much they charge per bucket and how many they sold? Gag!
My last thought is Bakker's handlers are watching him on his way out...he's seriously lost it.

(1,254 posts)And I was hoping SOMEONE in the audience yell back.....No you're not, your obviously nuts! And that bye bye, bye bye, bye bye. Sounded like a toddler.

(26,355 posts)...but when I watch the unedited portions of The Jim Bakker Show on Right Wing Watch, it's pretty clear that there's nobody in the audience with an IQ over 50...

(16,296 posts)Hard to believe him and Tammy were hauling in millions at one time. Jerry Falwell called Bakker " a liar, an embezzler, a sexual deviant, and "the greatest scab and cancer on the face of Christianity in 2,000 years of church history" Bakker still owes the IRS 6.000,000$ in back taxes and fines.

(26,355 posts)As soon as he got out, he got a second wife with the IQ of a potted plant, and went back to televangelizing and grifting. The survival bucket racket's probably especially lucrative for him...

Once a charlatan, always a charlatan.
And what the hell was that horn some audience members were blowing?
Wise Child
(180 posts)It's a ram's horn. I am not fond of this term, but I'm going to use it anyway, it seems that what they are doing is "cultural appropriation" from Judaism. There is a reference to a horn sounding in regards to the Second Coming, in Revelation.
This is confusing to me, because I'm assuming that Jim Baker is a believer in the Rapture, and that it is imminent thus why stockpile foodstuffs? Kind of like the mentality expressed on the bumper sticker "In Case of Rapture, This vehicle will be Unmanned!" Evangelicals who are enthusiastic about the Rapture do not bother with stockpiling.
I see that this is a cash cow for him. If the food stockpiling concept would become more popular, then people would find cheaper bulk foods, and other food production companies would try to make it cheaper. Some of what was presented looked like it was loaded with turmeric to give it that bright yellow color.

(24,005 posts)I thought, by the sound and appearance of it, that a shofar was a possibility, but could not figure why people would have them at a fundie gathering. I hoped not, because I would have interpreted that as mocking Judaism.
Once a huckster, always a huckster. Bakker is despicable. So are his sucker followers.
I guess I will settle for feeling scornful.

(180 posts)I'm not Jewish. I really don't concern myself with cultural appropriation. I was raised in a religious environment that involved a fair amount of "Judai-philia" expressed by Evangelical elders. Meaning they seemed to know more about Jewish traditions, customs and religion than your average Goy. I really don't know where they got the shofars, in my imagination, I'm thinking they bought really expensive souvenirs after they did a "Holy Land" tour of Israel.
For prophecy obsessed Fundies, there does seem to be, for lack of a better term, some "cultural appropriation". Like how they like to occasionally claim that the Rapture will take place on Rosh Hasanah ( I've heard Fundies refer to this as "The Feast of Trumpets" you know, because God works on Jewish time. Also, enthusiasm for the Temple being rebuilt, and Pentecostal ranchers who are trying to breed a red heifer, which I think, is meant for Temple dedication.

(3,263 posts)obsession with Israel and defending it with war if must be, and Judaism fawning but this explains a lot .
The shofars in the video he probably hawked to them at outrageously expensive price . I am imaging synthetic not even animal he is so bad
