(15,262 posts)According to a report from the Morton County Sheriffs Department, a large group of the protesters who have been working to obstruct the Dakota Access Pipeline ambushed and assaulted private security workers guarding one of the construction sites.
This was more like a riot than a protest. Individuals crossed onto private property and accosted private security officers with wooden posts and flag poles, Sheriff Kyle Kirchmeir said in a press release. The aggression and violence displayed here today is unlawful and should not be repeated. While no arrests were made at the scene, we are actively investigating the incident and individuals who organized and participated in this unlawful event.
You can read the full release below, but heres an excerpt of accounts of the incident from some of the private security workers: .............
In other words, "We stole this land and the people we stole it from have no rights because it is ours now."

(17,199 posts)... it does appear that those pitiful, scraggly mercenaries lost control of their mutts because they haven't got the faintest notion of how to control them. And the dogs themselves look like some pretty sad articles, too. I suspect somebody in Corporate hired a bunch of twerps on the cheap and didn't much care what happened. But did you see the size of that pepper spray canister the one dude was carrying?
Excited dogs and amateur handlers. Brilliant.

(32,084 posts)Those dogs all have pinch collars on them, which tells me they aren't really trained for any sort of crowd control purposes. "Security force", my fat ass. Nothing but a bunch of run-of-the-mill employees who were handed untrained German shepherd type dogs, and told to do crowd control. And, they're lucky one of those horses didn't kick the hell out of them and their dogs.
How the hell is any of this legal?

(17,199 posts)Local LEO claims all he knows is "some people were trespassing and it got out of hand." Aye-up. On what basis the corporation can fence off and dig up treaty-protected land is a question to which I have discovered no answer.

(2,145 posts)they need permits to build this pipeline. The corps of engineers admitted that Enbridge does not have permits to build near the river.
Thank you Native people for protecting our water. I grew up on the Missouri river and can not imagine the hardship oil pollution would cause.

http://earthjustice.org/features/faq-standing-rock-litigationUS Army Corps of Engineers apparently owns the land in question. They have fast-tracked permits for all construction up to the final permit, an easement for running a pipeline under the river. The tribe has sued the Corps for insufficient custodianship, and requested an injunction, which the Court is presently sitting on. Meanwhile, construction in areas already issued permits continues, and this is one such area where construction is taking place.
In another area, the tribes filed information on sacred sites as part of the above suit, whereupon the pipeline company sent earth movers to raze the areas before any action could be taken. No site, no problem, yeah?
