(6,600 posts)Other great songs are "Dear Mr President" & "Morphine & Chocolate."
I also LOVED World Entertainment War, very smart lyrics, dripping with social commentary (things like manipulation of the masses by the media etc), & awesome talent. They still have a "greatest hits" CD on Amazon, check it out. Songs like "Apathy & Ignorance" are great ("What is, the difference, between apathy & ignorance? I don't know, & I don't care." ... reminds me of the recent election.
Those were great days, when I could go out any weekend & see 4 Non-Blondes, World Entertainment War, Psychefunkapus, Operation Ivy, the Mermen, Sharkbait, Primus, or Green Day (back when they were "nobody" playing 924 Gilman or Berkeley Square). Heck, I even saw bands like Counting Crows in clubs when they were starting out.
It sucked when the A&R folks discovered the SF scene, because they signed my favorite bands & suddenly I couldn't go see them in little clubs anymore. Green Day wasn't at 924 Gilman, Dookie took off & they were at Oakland arena. I'm a musician, been through several rock bands myself, so I was REALLY happy for the bands that realized their dreams, but for the majority of them, including 4 Non-Blondes, World Entertainment War, & Psychefunkapus, getting signed lead to the breakup of the band ... & now something that was really special is gone.
I love my new home here on the island ... but I do miss the SF music scene.
