Your Tax Dollars Might Be Going to Help Fund A Turkish Coup
Maybe Fethullah Gulen is a good man who is trying to do good for all the right reasons. Maybe he is just being attacked because he is a Muslim. However, it is possible that the charter school system that is said to be linked to Fethullah Gulen might be part of a scam. Gulen and his supporters might be using some of the taxpayer money gained from opening and maintaining charter schools to support political efforts in Turkey. There are reports that up to 40% of the pay of the Turkish teachers that are brought to America is taken from them and used to support coup efforts in Turkey. In 2012, 60 minutes reported that even though some of the Turkish teachers seemed barely capable of speaking English they were being hired as English teachers.
The 60 minutes report mainly focused on the idea that Gulen's charter school system could be a part of a immigration scam. The second video focused on the idea that Gulen's charter school system might be using taxpayer money to fund a political movement in Turkey.
I will acknowledge that Fethullah Gulen has been attacked by right wing advocates who claim he has a secret agenda to teach Islam to American school children. It has been reported that Islam is not taught in any of the schools associated with Gulen. I am not trying to parrot right wing dogma. I posted these videos because I saw a story this morning that stated taxpayer money might be going to fund political efforts in Turkey. I thought DU members should be informed.
