Between us at DU, who got that he was a con man from day one of his campaign, or even before, or certainly by the time election day rolled around, and those who didn't, is that we took the time and trouble to educate and cultivate ourselves, to make sure that we could really think independently and critically, and the others who got conned didn't. Unfortunately, our educational system has been so dumbed down in recent years that it no longer takes the time to do that; instead, it spends an inordinate amount of time merely preparing students to take those silly standardized multiple choice tests. And life is definitely more challenging, and requires better thinking skills, than a multiple choice test! We somehow found the gift or ability for intellectual discernment within ourselves, while the others didn't, even though I believe that the vast majority of mankind have this innate ability, however latent and undeveloped it might be.

Not yet three months into the Trump disaster, he still has his diehard followers (he admittedly loves the poorly educated). Many of them are busy struggling from day to day and haven't the time or education in critical thinking to see this major con artist for what he truly is... but, he certainly got their attention. Trump's blatant moves from the minute he took office show HIS ignorance of the job. He doesn't have the foggiest idea, starting in politics with being POTUS, as to how our checks/balances system allegedly works. So many citizens these days no longer learn this as part of their high school education. Trump has attended all the best schools, and certainly came astoundingly ignorant as to governing. Obviously he thought he could come in, sign a bunch of executive orders (HATED it when President Obama did so) and that would just be the "law of the land" by his decree. I am a contemporary of Trump, but was educated in the public schools. My daughter, now pushing middle age, started her education in private ( although MONTESSORI) schools and finished in the public school system She grew up used to hearing politics (mainly from a liberal bent ) discussed at home Only one of her grandparents finished high school, but all of their kids have college degrees, only one without further graduate education (and most financially successful) . Major problem here? A lack of education on a system that we've come to expect is the way things go... too many clueless citizens hearing what they want from Trump;. Bullshit just goes down so easily when your world is disintegrating.

con man immediatly. We had one that took over the company I worked for. He had most of our management and the union beleiving his bullshit.
The guy ended bankrupting the company. I told people he was a con man after hearing him talk like 2 minutes. I don't claim to be smart I just have
instinct to see thru their bs.

6. Seems Like Don the Con Has Finally Met His Match

When he became president of the United States. The presidency is one job in which you can't "fake it till you make it", which the Donald has been doing all his life. It needs real knowledge and real ability to pull off correctly, as well as a real ability to govern, which Donald so conspicuously lacks. The morning after election day, my sister, who got me on to DU, said to me, weeping, that she couldn't believe that our country had just elected a total fraud to the highest office in the land. A total fraud - and with each passing day of his mis-administration, that seems to be truer and truer all the time, and not by any means an exaggeration or hyperbole.

I really admire Mr. Johnston, and the reasons he gave for why he wrote the book on Donald, and how he sees his mission: to educate the American people about the true nature and function of our democracy, and the grave perils and dangers we face with Trump in the White House. Really, the dangers we face now as a nation are in every way the equal of those we faced at the dawn of the American civil war - hence the comparison of the 2016 election to the one in 1860. The only thing I took exception to in his talk was when he lumped Donald together with all psychics as being total frauds. It is an insult to psychics to lump Donald Trump together with them, because many of them are not frauds, but have genuine psychic ability and a real commitment to helping their clients.
