There has been talk of Ahsoka Tano being in the next Star Wars film, not sure who they have in in mind to play her. Let me guess....Scarlett Johansson, ight?

6. John Williams... hack composer, conductor.

His best score... Jaws. He only needed two notes.

Dun... dunnn! Dunnn... dun! Dun... dun... dun... etc.

Plus he conducts with both hands, the one mirroring the baton. No classical conductor does that.

At least Star Trek was never saddled with such horrible garbage.

Try Erich Wolfgang Korngold sometime, or my favorites, Bernard Herrmann, Leonard Bernstein, and Andre Previn.

John Williams wrote the same damned score for every one of his films. The only innovation he ever made was Jaws. And that was only two notes.

7. Naw, I'm not into classical directors

Classical music (for me) is very boring and drawn out-- Would rather listen to a squirrel having sex with a tree, or this turtle humping a croc video.

8. Boring?

Let me guess. All music must be rendered by electrical guitars, bass, and drums. ALL VERY LOUD!!!!!

That's music? No. That's just loud noise. And rap/hip-hop/whatever-it's-called-today is just yelling.

Try Bach, or Mozart, or Rachmaninoff sometime.
Note: not boring.

Try opera. Monteverdi/Purcell/Mozart//Rossini/Verdi/Wagner/(OMFG!)Puccini! Not boring either.

I like some rock, just not much of it. One can only take so much loud electric guitar. Who decided that all music had to have such narrow instrumentation?

That is why I never listen to it anymore.

Try on some Bach. Glenn Gould's 1955 performance of The Goldberg Variations (note: not boring):

9. Very boring

Oh yeah, I love rock music. But I also love bluegrass, jazz, rap, hip hop, blues, zydeco, and other genres out there that don't incorporate piercing guitar solos and distortion into their set lists.

During my times of relaxation I like listening to artists like Mississippi John Hurt, Son House, Muddy Waters, and Bukka White- Their tunes give me an idea of what it was like to live in a black America that was poor and segregated.

Then I have those days I throw on Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, Billie Holliday, and Miles Davis.

Of course I won't leave out The Beatles, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, and the other jewels from classic rock.

How could I forget about Al Di Meola, Jimmy Herring, Buckethead...

I won't bore you with all of the artists I listen to. And I won't ask you to go search for their music on the Internet.


I just don't see anything wrong with me not liking classical and opera, do you?

I'm not close-minded about classical music, in fact I have listened to all of the composers that you listed. Upon reflection I can't recall any soul-stirring magic that enveloped my spirit while listening to those you mentioned.

11. Right- It is music that I listen to

I never hung around people who have attended the opera or concerts that involves symphonies. There's usually a stereotype of those people floating around - Trust fund babies and elitists comes to mind. Guess I live in the real world with normal folks. lol

Throw on your Friday night rave outfit and dance for 12 hours straight, longship. lol

12. I'm too clumsy for dance.

Although I do like some Patsy Cline once in a while. And Thelonious Monk drives me cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs -- Straight, No Chaser. And Kind of Blue -- Miles Davis -- is likely the greatest jazz album recorded since Benny Goodman's incredible 1939 Carnegie Hall concert album.

So, my music tastes are not limited to classical. But the classical catalog is so deep, wide, and diverse I just cannot get out of it these days. Ever try Alban Berg? OMFG! Wozzeck!!! Philip Glass Satyagraha is incredible for minimalism.

BTW, I am a poor old guy living on under $1,000/mo on Social Security. So I am no trust fund anything. I own my house, but am perpetually one year behind in property taxes. I drive a 21 year old car with next to no exhaust system. It has a catalytic converter and the manifold leaks, but the exhaust behind the cat is gone. I just grew up listening to classics. My family was lower middle class. Grew up in Detroit. Yes, in the city.
