Oriental People?

1. The term is "Asian" or "Asian-American"

They haven't been "Orientals" for about 50 years.

So anyone who uses the term "Oriental" is showing how out-of-date they are.

Question: how many black people call themselves "Negroes" anymore?

7. The way it was explained to me,

"Orient" meant anything to the East of Europe, as if everyone *else* was the same and could be lumped into one bucket (you know...non-Euro). Oh, and it sometimes included North Africa, too.

So in their world that would be just about anyone who wasn't white.

I'd recommend avoiding the term.

Vernacular. Besides, unless you are Asian, you don't have a say. Just like if you objected to a Black person using the term "Jive", its just as negative.

To Most people that I know, we call ourselves ASIANS, and are ASIAN AMERICAN, and don't
ever call us "Orientals." or do, and see what happens.
