Our founding fathers would be ashamed of them!

fear the liberty guaranteed by the Constitution – liberty that facilitates change, diversity, and expressions of individualism.

Conservatives are, for the most part, authoritarians who seek to compel conformity, and religion can be a powerful political tool to do just that – hence the wisdom of the Framers to prohibit the conjoining of church and state.

Sadly, I know folks that I consider smart, by and large. And yet they cling to their faiths as a way to deal with their insecurities.

Two comments:

The Ten Commandments start with "I am YHWH your God. You shall have no other gods except me." How does that differ in spirit from "There is no god but Allah, and Muhammed is his prophet"? Would Weber be cool with posting that?

Kurt Vonnegut wrote, "For some reason, the most vocal Christians among us never mention the Beatitudes (Matthew 5). But, often with tears in their eyes, the demand that the Ten Commandments be posted in public buildings. And of course, that's Moses, not Jesus. I haven't heard one of them demand that the Sermon on the Mount, the Beatitudes, be posted anywhere.
'Blessed are the merciful' in a courtroom? 'Blessed are the peacemakers' in the Pentagon? Give me a break!" The Beatitudes are far more central to the Christian message that Weber supposedly promotes than the Ten Commandments.

I need to look it up again but Jefferson once wrote that Washington was never really that religious, nor prayed a lot. Correct me if I am wrong of course... but I assume that the title of this event he is speaking at is only suppose to be Ironic in nature.

I am doing whatever I can to correct this, but the oil industry in our district is king. Anyone running here has to be a "fossil fuel forever" type.
