(54,405 posts)Seals have been coming in ever greater numbers the last few years. They're cute to see, especially when they swim up close to us, but they are a great white's lunch. It was inevitable that the great whites would follow sooner or later. So, we swim back toward shore when we see one of those friendly-looking black heads pop up out of the water ten feet away from us.
The water has been warmer these past few years, even if Trump, Inhofe and McTurtle say it hasn't. There have been accompanying changes in the sea life as well. Horseshoe "crabs," sand dollars and starfish are no longer seen near the shore, and the thousands of hermit crabs have been reduced to a scattered few here and there. Seagulls are still in abundance, as the clams they feed on don't seem to mind the warmer water, but lobsters prefer colder water, and have retreated to deeper areas. Their relative scarcity has resulted in higher lobster prices.
