You have to change people's minds before there can be real change.

...the lack of symbols will allow other symbols to work on changing them back.

Was not banning anything & everything related to the TREASONOUS Confederacy & its treasonous leaders! Much like Germany did after WW2 when it comes to anything NAZI related.

Of all people, it was Fmr. Confederate General Robert E. Lee who warn against building Confederate monuments to him, Confederate soldiers & its leadership! He knew that it would it would create problems down the road & prolong the healing that needed to take place especially in the South!

Building monuments to the Confederacy...
"As regards the erection of such a monument as is contemplated, my conviction is, that however grateful it would be to the feelings of the South, the attempt in the present condition of the country would have the effect of retarding, instead of accelerating its accomplishment, and of continuing, if not adding to, the difficulties under which the Southern people labour,"

About building monuments to Confederate soldiers & battle fields...
“I think it wiser moreover not to keep open the sores of war, but to follow the examples of those nations who endeavoured to obliterate the marks of civil strife and to commit to oblivion the feelings it engendered,”

...And he was 100% correct!

Not long after the Civil War ended Lee took an oath to "henceforth" support the US Constitution & he told his soldiers to do the same.
What is really screwed up is everyone in the South knew at the time what Robert E. Lee's feelings were about burying the dead Confederacy & moving forward to heal the nation. At his funeral, Lee made it clear he was not to be buried in his Confederate uniform & all his fellow Confederate soldiers who came to his funeral did not wear their Confederate uniforms & there were no Confederate flags...However, once Lee was dead Southerners basically SPIT ON HIS GRAVE & began erecting monuments of him & Confederate leaders all over the South!

When I show these quotes to my fellow Southerners who talk about BS Heritage & other worn out excuses to keep their racist & treasonous symbols & monuments most go to their SAFE SPACE of "FAKE QUOTES" or some version of Liberal propaganda.
