Christians Arrested Reading Scripture In Senate Office Building

Last edited Tue Dec 5, 2017, 08:57 PM - Edit history (1)

On Thursday November 30th, 12 Christians were arrested reading #2000verses and praying in the senate office building calling on senators to oppose the GOP tax bill. Whether you self-identify as a Christian or not, this must touch you.

EDITED TO ADD: Sojourners have a Facebook page: Another way to share this......and It needs to go viral!!!!!

You might want to re-phrase that. I'm a secular humanist and I'm as "true American" as any sky pilot.

The United States is not a christian nation.

not just a Christian nation. You are correct, but any true American appreciates the good teachings on any religion. Especially the honest teachings of a human secularist.

.....I struggle with belief; but, I revere the moral teachings of Rabbi Yeshua bar Yosef, and I respect the people who really try to follow his teaching.

8. This is what America is about: the freedom to worship or not worship, to hold you religious beliefs

to be your own and not have them controlled by the state. Not a Christian or Catholic or Atheist or Muslim or Zoroastrian state, but a state which supports your right to believe as you choose within the limits of others protection from harm.

Cool, huh. That's why we love this system of government. That's why we are against any fanatic who desires to change that choice. Roy Moore and many Christian Right who are on the march to overtake the freedom of religion we hold sacred must not be allowed to usurp our rights. I think we agree or we wouldn't be so at home here at DU.

If they were cherry picking scripture to promote the tax bill, they could have stayed.

They have nothing to do with the Jim Bakkers or Roy Moores or Ted Cruzes of this country.

They're more Matthew 25:40 types

(that's the "sheep and goats" passage where the key line is "whatsoever you do to the least of these, YOU DO TO ME!"
