The Iranians apparently have the fire power to attack Israel with missiles.

No Republican plot is needed. If Iran blinks, the US will probably retaliate to protect Iran. I would expect that.

Does Iran have any allies in the area who could support it? Not any with any military power, so Iran would be on its own.

Iran is best off forgetting about any kind of military action or even defense. It is surrounded. And there are enough dissidents within Iran to cause the current Iranian government a lot of trouble.

Iran has friends, but not military allies in the sense that Israel has.
