(59 posts)Why is no one else talking about these issues? No one? Name me 1 candidate. This was an excellent interview? And to top it off, no one is commenting on it? Amazing. I mean, how can people disagree with anything he says? I didn't hear 1 lie.

(12,882 posts)You just haven't been here (DU) long enough to understand that Bernie's at fault for EVERY FUCKING FLUB that the Democratic Party has inflicted on itself in recent years. Ask also why Beto O'rouke in Texas isn't mentioned here too. Also - come back in a day or two and see if my response to your query hasn't been "alerted" (Erased) from this thread.

(58,785 posts)Of course! The primaries are FULL ON right now, Smitty. Our candidates are campaigning for election and reelection. And these are standard liberal, progressive Democratic Party issues and have been for decades. We have a lot more too.
Why don't you go find a Democratic Party candidate in your district or state, listen and learn, and hopefully change the undeserved contempt of ignorance about them to the respect of knowledge?

(3,515 posts)But we have to simplify our language and dumb ourselves down and be very, very, very patient to do it.
I think we are up to (or down to) the task.
He's right. We have to engage individual Trump supporters if we are to win this November and in 2020.

(58,785 posts)showed us the way too. He did an almost miraculous job of convincing some conservative Alabamans, who believed they had no choice but to vote for a depraved Republican in opposition to abortion, etc., etc., etc., to instead do the unthinkable and vote for a Democrat!
Jones recognized that even mentioning standard issues would be fatal. These days almost all of them are emotional dog whistles to Republicans for something or other these days. Yet polls again and again revealed that large majorities of voters wanted a return to decency and for politicians to work together as they once did for the good of their people.
So Jones, carefully maneuvering around the minefield of partisan issues, campaigned on a simple return to decency and good sense. And he amazingly won, showing a path to victory for other Democrats running in purple and red districts around the nation.
