Long story short, then the American planters used a Navy gunboat and it's crew to imprison the queen and took over.

Not trying to start a fight at all...I'm not into that, however, this was a travesty just as America celebrating columbus day. A man who was a pedophile and mass murderer.
But, as always, the victor writes the history books.

(90,686 posts)I'll view this later. But just a word to say: when it came to ali'i dying overseas, it had happened before. After centuries of isolation, the Hawai'ian people had no immunity to diseases from outside. Between that and the state of medical science of the day, no skullduggery was needed.
And more: of course this isn't the history you hear in school, because as far as I can tell, Mainland haoles live in blissful pig-ignorance about everything to do with the Islands that doesn't involve a Mai-Tai and a sunburn.
Edited to add: Yes, Hawai'i did give us Barack Obama, an amazing thing I never imagined n my wildest dreams. And for those with eyes to see, Hawai'i permeates his being. Mahalo.
