The king took ill and traveled to San Francisco for treatment but somehow ended up dead.

Long story short, then the American planters used a Navy gunboat and it's crew to imprison the queen and took over.

It's covered well in Stephen Kinzer's book: "Overthrow: America's Century of Regime Change from Hawaii to Iraq".

and make it taste good. It was stolen from them.
Not trying to start a fight at all...I'm not into that, however, this was a travesty just as America celebrating columbus day. A man who was a pedophile and mass murderer.
But, as always, the victor writes the history books.

I'll view this later. But just a word to say: when it came to ali'i dying overseas, it had happened before. After centuries of isolation, the Hawai'ian people had no immunity to diseases from outside. Between that and the state of medical science of the day, no skullduggery was needed.

And more: of course this isn't the history you hear in school, because as far as I can tell, Mainland haoles live in blissful pig-ignorance about everything to do with the Islands that doesn't involve a Mai-Tai and a sunburn.

Edited to add: Yes, Hawai'i did give us Barack Obama, an amazing thing I never imagined n my wildest dreams. And for those with eyes to see, Hawai'i permeates his being. Mahalo.
