My political intuition is telling me that the Democrats MUST block this nomination until after the midterms. If the Democrats cave, the midterms might possibly be a disaster for our party. This IS THE MOMENT. Our party leaders must show the backbone and steeled resolve to steer the ship to safety. If they do not, the future scenario for America is nightmarish.

(37,648 posts)one of the most successful Senators at getting at the truth in the Russian hearings in the Senate. A strong voice. A fighter with a flare for words. Gone. For no good reason, IMO.
That may have contributed to where we are today. Every voice counts. There was no other strong voice that came forward in his place.
Now all we have are people saying that McConnell should do this, should do that, Maxine Waters should be nicer....
Kamala Harris is nice & smart. But she's new to the Senate. I don't see anything in her that indicates she has the fire to stop the nomination. Her responses to his questions were mainly stating the kind of person the Dems would pick for that slot. Which is irrelevant and not answering his questions about what she would do to stop the confirmation, & pointed out the Garland mess. (She couldn't answer what went wrong there because she wasn't in the Senate yet, I think.)

In a hearing for Sessions, she was so aggressive she got gaveled. More than once.

(37,648 posts)her thunder. And that other woman who had Presidential aspirations...Gillibrand or something. Also weak with an unpleasant unauthoritative voice.
Harris isn't experienced in politics, IMO. Even her answers to Matthews were nonresponsive, vague, and she wasn't confidant in the answers she did give. Because she didn't want to say outright,"I don't know what happened with Garland, because I wasn't in the Senate and I didn't follow what was going on with that." I've had my fill of politicians lately who don't answer questions directly. Or if you're going to step around the question, you have to be good at it.
But if you like her, more power to you. She's not Presidential material, to me. No charisma, not fast on her feet. She is smart. They're all smart.

(64 posts)Democrats have to band together, STOP the purity tests (attn: Bernie supporters) and give this one last shot. This will require a massive amount of spine-growing for some of our elected Democrats but if they don't fight like hell to stop this SCOTUS nightmare, then they have failed the people who elected them, and they will have failed our country, it's founders and freedom around the globe.
It's nearing the end, folks, and this is what it looks like. Gloomy? Yes. Sorry, but my marriage is suddenly on the short list of things they want to eradicate, and so is a woman's right to choose, so is healthcare, so are civil rights...and the list goes on.
We have ONE LAST SHOT to stop this SCOTUS pick and if we lose it, we lose our country. FIGHT TO WIN, even if that means fighting beyond our comfort zones. This is NO time to be complacent, and it's NO time to be the nice guys. We need to be warriors - right now - because their Final Solution is nearly in place. Yes, it's that serious.
