(846 posts)There is a comment about American flags in this video. The first time I ever saw Fox News, I made an observation about the constant flag waving in the background. Every shot, every show. Flags. This author explains why they used them. As props, which is actually more disrespectful to the flag than, say, kneeling during the national anthem.
That was just one thing, but I soon concluded that Fox News was not a news channel, and I stayed away from it. This was in the 90's.

All about the planting the hook.

(13,885 posts)Many moons ago I got into a multilevel marketing program.. It never went anywhere but I learned a bunch about psychological salesmanship.. I don't remember much but the one thing that stuck with me was the power of YES.. We were told during the conversation with the
"mark" to get him/her to agree with you about something many times.. "Ah, the sky is beautiful today, yes?" "you can see the value in this, yes?" "This item makes you happy, yes?
Or some such line to get them to say yes many times during the conversation. So when you pop the question, they already have said yes many times... Sometime I still hear sales people using this mode .. Especially car dealers..

(34,661 posts)in the Family,he uses this technique in his training programs and honestly,it works that is why he makes the big Buck's.
Dale Carnegie was the best and his Technique is still taught as the best in sales training usage.
Getting the Yes has always worked for me. And you mention MLM,I have always called it the Fuller Brush Hustle. My Cousin's Hubby was Fullers head of Sales for over thirty years and you know the story of how successful Fuller was and is today. His Training program was Carnegie on Roid's. In High School,he was the Guy who could sell Freezers to Eskimo's. Or milk to Dairy Farmers.
All about the Hook, now reel'em in baby.

(13,885 posts)Hustle is right..The line... "if it seems to good to be true, it probably is" comes to mind with MLM. They promise you the moon if you only work your butt off.. I don't know but I could see a bit of the blarney coming thru with this line of work. I went because it was free education.. I learned a lot about real estate taking a "get rich quick flipping houses"program. Not recently but 30 years ago.. What I learned got me my first house with no money down!!
Right to the point and no college debt to worry about. Learned a lot about Vitamins and health thru Herbal life and psychology with Werner Erhard's EST program..
All scams but good education.. The real estate guy went to jail for defrauding students..
wait.. what?? sounds like tRump? The EST guy followed the same route..

(34,661 posts)session once. Very Interesting how the Crowd was soon parted with their Pocket Books. One of my first jobs was Route Sales, everyone was required to do a Dale Carnegie training course in downtown St Paul. Best thing that ever happened. Just the personal image and Confidence control was more than worth it,use it still to this day . First Impressions are lasting Impressions. Been known to walk away from Introductions because of this rule.
Donald Trump would fit that first impression mode, when first reading about him forty years ago,I knew he was a total fraud just by his replies to answers.

Perfect analogy.
