Rowe v. Wade would also deny IVF treatment which she used for her pregnancies.

At the end, Jake added the recent Bronx win by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and asked whether the party has to be concerned about moving too far left.

I don't like to see us lose the high ground and shoot ourselves in the foot. I believe all would agree that you have to be extremely careful not to allow any chance of misinterpretation. Trump lost no time is seizing the opportunity to say "see they what open borders" and the rest of the hyperbole about criminals, dope smugglers, etc. We have to attack the people who are responsible for this fiasco. And let it go at that. I believe that we can agree that we need effective control of the borders especially because of the threat of terrorism. In this day and age it seems ridiculous that we can't monitor the borders with high tech gear when you can buy a number of effective home surveillance systems.

I get what folks mean when they say "Abolish ICE": abolish the barbaric zero tolerance policy of criminalizing people who are just trying to have a better life and/or seek asylum. They and I know that ICE was not created until 2003, and was meant to go after criminals and terrorists who mean to do us harm, not who want to cut our grass. But most Americans don't know that about ICE. When most Americans hear "Abolish ICE," they hear "open borders" since they think ICE and border enforcement are synonymous.

We should frame it as a demand that ICE not be diverted from their core function of protecting us from terrorists. And that is exactly what is happening. ICE is being prevented from devoting its resources to going after criminals by Trump's racist policy of having ICE jail and separate peaceful families attempting to flee Central American violence. Not only is it barbaric and expensive, it makes us less safe.

I already liked Senator Duckworth and this makes me like her even more. Like it or not our nation does need a law enforcement agency designed to enforce immigration and customs laws. Yes, I would like to see Trump policies removed but IMO people saying we should just stop enforcing immigration and customs laws are fools, they might mean well, but they are never the less fools.

The Democratic Party needs more level headed and smart people like Sen. Duckworth not more ragging people shouting impractical things. I want more well thought out positions and fewer.

It will only hurt us in the midterms. I agree with its premise, but we need to work up to abolishing ICE, and more importantly, give an alternative. Now, the Republicans are going to claim Democrats want no security and chaos at the border. Mainstream America will buy it. Politically, the optics on this are terrible.

I think ICE should ultimately be replaced with something new. However, the Democrats look awful with their current message. We need to reframe the message into something more palatable for mainstream America.
