They liked the original Red Dawn so much they had to try to make it come true.

"In our time, no foreign army has ever occupied American soil."

"Until now."

Hey, thanks a lot, GOP. You wrapped yourself in the flag, grabbed your bible, and got up to let them in the back door while we were sleeping.

"Wolverines!" That's us, BTW, not you. That's us liberal patriots. Not you idiot conservative turncoats.

Happy fourth of goddamned July to every good American that still believes in those gorgeous goddamned words what made us.

It’s now sends chills up your spine as to the similarity. It was done 30 years ago.

is generations old celebration of a holiday that even as a veteran I will not celebrate as long as white supremacists are in the presidency, a majority in Congress and soon to be a firm 'fixed' majority on our so called Supremacist's Court.

I can't celebrate because my country is dying. Everything for which I felt proud has been shamefully trashed not just by Trump but by the political party that put him in office. We are a nation almost half comprised of racists and fascists, and are not only abandoning our friends in Europe and Asia, we're pissing on them.

I agree with your statements but not exactly your response.
I am proud of my country. I’m not proud of the GOP.

I come across as cynical, and perhaps I am, I don’t assume this fight will be easy or “fair.” I think that has been the problem for Democrats since 1994, we assumed that the GOP shared a vision of the United States. They do not, they want power and things like justice, integrity even morality are words to batter their opponents, but not ones they feel compelled to live by.

So I will go with my 13 year old son and march in the 4th of July parade with his Boy Scout troop, because I’m celebrating the United States, not the dime store patriotism of the GOP. We have allowed the GOP and the “Movement Conservatism” to claim our cultural ideals instead of saying “Celebrating one American ideal while violating others is not American.” I’m marching in the parade in spite of our nascent fascist party’s ongoing attempts to claim that they represent America. It’s an act of resistance.

I believe we represent the Ideals of the United States; our ideals are just that, ideals. If it were easy to live up to ideals they wouldn’t be called that. The GOP and movement conservatism can’t live up to all of the ideals so they don’t even bother. It makes our position harder, trying to live by our ideals and push back on people whose only motivation is the acquisition of power.

with knowledge of the realities that amerika has always presented to me, especially after I returned from ervice in the army 67-70. I lost my pride in america.

Celebration of this country is your right of course. Yet the realities under which POC, AA especially, have lived for 300+ years is nothing I can have pride in.

You and your son have fun. Some of us can't.

I'm proud of what we claim to aspire to. That we fail to do so is our shame, and our duty to correct.
