(41,102 posts)actor Jimmy Cagney portraying the life of George M. Cohan (1878-1942) the father of American musicals. Cohan the famous vaudeville entertainer, actor and songwriter appeared in 30 musicals and wrote 300 popular, patriotic songs including "Grand Old Flag," "Over There," "Give My Regards to Broadway" and "Yankee Doodle Dandy."
"The man who owned Broadway" was able to privately see the classic 1942 film rushed to production after the attack on Pearl Harbor, and thanked actor Cagney. Cohan passed away later that year on Nov. 5, 1942, from a terminal illness.

(51,562 posts)The Grad Old Flag was one of the songs in the musical we did and I wanted to give them some background info. Those 6 year olds could really belt it out too.
