People, like Bob Dornan and Alan Keyes put themselves forward as Presidential candidates in the past, but got no following. There was no Limbaugh and AM right wing talk radio before '92 and Fox came online in the late 90's. Candidates like Herman Caine and Michelle Bachman were unthinkable before then.

After decades of lowering the media bar, its power has been multiplied with social media and internet. There's people casting votes who actually watch Infowars nonironically for more than 30 seconds - millions of them. There's nearly a direct correlation between this shit media and the results and it's probably with us to stay.
