Three fourths work on the books. From pay 15.3% is withheld for soc sec and Medicare, one percent state disability. About 6% of the first $7000 is sent in for unemployment insurance. If income is high enough income tax is withheld. Sales tax, gas tax, booze tax, car tax, real estate tax, other tax. It adds up.
