Chris Hedges and Jonathan Haidt: On Capitalism

Published on Aug 8, 2012 by 92ndStreetY

Chris Hedges, a senior fellow at the Nation Institute, and Jonathan Haidt, a psychology professor at the University of Virginia, had an interesting discussion on capitalism at 92Y on June 19th, 2012. In looking at corporations and capitalism, the duo examined the repeal of Glass-Steagall, the 2008 financial collapse and the Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling.

Has a "corporate coup d'état" taken place? Watch the conversation to find out.

Is Nothing Sacred?

The answer for corporations is NO. There is nothing sacred enough that a corporation wont destroy it to make a buck.

So painfully true IMHO...

Of course, the majority of voters on both sides refuse too entertain such a notion; both sides will defend their leaders equally, no matter what, regardless of the truth.

They listen to the excuses and the apologist, and well pointing their fingers at the other Party they will never hold their own accountable.

Unfortunately, the only higher powers that can hold the leaders of either party accountable are "We the Voters"; but herein rest the problem.

The vast majority of "We the Voters", are trapped in their respective political paradigm, woefully misinformed, or uniformed, resorting to instinctively trusting whatever it is that their leaders say or do, censoring and ridiculing anyone who says different.

We all have been listening to the lies for so long that the perfect euphemism for Americans would be, not the best and the brightest but rather… “People of the Lie”.
