(6,344 posts)But wow, what the hell did the Taliban do with the forests? Did they burn them down? What purpose was there in destroying nature? I guess we could ask the same question of republicans and the benedict donald regime.

(16,296 posts)Basically they plunder any country they had control of be it selling lumber, artifacts, gold, etc. for guns and equipment.

(8,764 posts)a forest where a forest was not present. Reforestation refers to re-planting a forest where a forest has bee burnt or otherwise removed. Most of these new tree plantations are on quite harsh sites with accelerated erosion. Most of trees not local species to Pakistan. Most are Eucalypts (Australia native) or Acacias (members of pea family most native to Africa or Australia). Good project. Lots of hard work. Those landscapes pre-date the Taliban.
