I've been hitting a locally owned place with better/cheaper coffee.

I have to agree. I sometimes go to a place in L.A. called Philz. It's expensive ($4.60 for a large coffee), but the coffee is the real thing. Starbucks seemed to be at one time really good. But like a lot of corporate products, as a product matures, obsession with profits eventually dilutes quality. I guess what you end up with is corporate swill. Nothing like a great new product while it's still considered new on the market
