(4,483 posts)The offender does not get to decide whether the person offended is offended. Period. I'm so tired of hearing, "Well, it wouldn't bother me" that I could spit. You don't get to tell people whether or not their feelings should be hurt, and you don't get to tell people whether or not they feel mistreated. Even if you're white.

(391 posts)... I view the matter of racism like Justice Potter Stewart viewed pornography, "I know it when I see it."

(2,148 posts)racism is defined as white racism against blacks. And if anyone with a "white" skin is defined as white. IOW, if you follow his definition, Armenians can't be racists, Italians can't be racist, but Irish and Poles can be racist. eh, what? A bit of history - at one time Irish and Italians were not considered white in this country. Now what happens when a person is 1/16th black and has a white skin? Is that person still black? (Passe blanc). What happens when a Latino hates blacks - by that definition they get a pass because they are not racist. And heaven forbid, what happens when black bangers hate Latinos? Or Asians hate Latinos and blacks? That gets a pass.
So the very basis of his premised is racist in that he dumps all people from all countries who have light skin, even passe blancs, into the same group and calls them racist, not matter who they are, how they think, rich or poor, or where they came from.
This is the same as assuming that all blacks came from Africa, and all blacks in and from Africa are the same, and all are poor. "All blacks are----" is the same as "all whites are" Uh, no. Try again. There is racism, but it is found in the intolerant, the prejudiced, the ignorant, and is grounded in fear and hate. Things that some people of any race has been guilty of at one time or another.

(16,847 posts)These are dangerous times when there are no standards of truth accepted by the majority. People hear what they want to hear and accept what they're willing to accept. All truth is subjective today. Where do we go from here?
