(16,786 posts)Al Sharpton asked direct questions that Corey Stewart refused to answer and deflected from.
Forget the HISTORY of the Africans taken from their villages for money by White Settlers in the New World in the early 17th century who needed forced labor. The generations after that, enslaved and devalued as human beings, to be bought and sold at whim, as more were taken from Africa a century later.
The American Civil War was about SLAVERY, not state's rights. Slavery as an institution was wrong! All the books written about this, I have to assume Corey Stewart never read, but Al Sharpton most likely did.

(36,827 posts)He once called a white nationalist his hero and is to this day a birther dipshit who believes in the pizzagate insane nonsense. Even the GOP hates him. The best part is he's the perfect GOP candidate and will get crushed in the election.

(8,200 posts)In a rather lengthy article he stated that Jefferson had correctly stated that slavery would be the "rock upon which the Old Union would split." He wrote that the founding fathers belief that the enslavement of African was in violation of the "laws of nature" and was wrong in "principle, socially, morally, and politically..." Stevens stated that they were wrong since it was based on the equality of the races. He laid out the foundation of the Confederacy in clear concise terms stating that their new government the cornerstone on which it is formed is that the "negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery-subordination to the superior race-is his natural and normal condition." This declaration of their constitution was published throughout the South and the North.
My ardent wish is that every newspaper throughout the nation reprint his statement removing any doubt as to the cause of the Civil War. Further, it should be broadcast whenever some nincompoop like Corey Stewart tries to mislead the citizens.

(5,969 posts)He didn't allow the conversation getting derailed by continuous name-calling and always brought it back to the topic. That didn't work out well for Stewart. Instead, all he could offer was the usual word salad and deflections we see again and again by people like him.

(18,124 posts)what a piece of racist shit. Spewing his, he thinks, intelligent distraction/diversion to cover his racist BS.

(5,106 posts)That blows my mind, since my grandfather came from that state and, like many other Scandinavians whose families settled there, was VERY liberal. The whole state was pretty liberal for many years. My grandfather could remember the old timers who remembered the infamous James gang raid (Northfield).

(4,341 posts)Normal repub tactic, you don't want to answer the question?
1. Talk about how much you love history
2. Talk about how much you love the state you intend to represent and how resilient, and brave the people from the state are.
3. Insult the host, or whoever asked the questions you are avoiding to answer
4. Run around the issue
5. Blame the liberals
Blah, blah
I just loved watching his face when the Rev flatly unmasked him from running around the bush. They are so full of sh&(*

Mr. GOP is essentially Gish-Galloping, by attempting to throw in multiple irrelevant talking-points. Not once, but repeatedly.
In the end its clear that Sharpton looks good (to the average viewer, IMO) and the other guy looks like a typical politician ... which gives Sharpton a clear win.
Apologies if it looks like Im making it sound like a silly game, but the typical GOP tactics need to be shown exactly for what they are.
