is that if you want to know if Jurassic Park is safe, you don't ask the dinosaurs. I go to Fenway Park like those other white people, but if he'd asked me, I wouldn't have been foolish enough to deny the racism in Boston.

Heard more racist rhetoric in Boston than anywhere else.

The thing about the Sox being the last team to integrate is not an accident. The Sox had a chance to sign Willy Mays but Yawkey didn't want a black man on his team.

Imagine a lineup that had Ted Williams AND Willy Mays.

3. With Mays and Williams they would've won the World Series long before '04.

Racism has hidden costs that often go undetected.

The Yankees dominated the AL in the 50s because they had Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, and Whitey Ford amongst others.

But they would have challenged the Yankees for some pennants no doubt.

5. The Yanks went down in the '60s while Mays was still going strong.

When did Williams retire? He may have stayed longer with Mays as a running mate.

and lost in the Series the next 2 years, 63 and 64. After that, they had a drought until the Steinbrenner/Reggie Jackson/Billy Martin era in the latter half of the 70s.

Mays had a great year in 1965 - won the MVP - and a good year in 1966, but was on the downside of his career after that.

8. Yeah, I remember. But when did Williams retire? Was there overlap with Mays' good years?

With those two together maybe the Yanks would not have won in the early 60s.

Btw, the Reggie Jackson/Billy Martin/Steinbrenner years were some of my favs of all the Yank teams. In fact, I wasn't a Yankee fan until the Reggie years.

9. Williams retired after the 1960 season

Williams had a tough 59, but came back with a solid final year, batting 316 with 29 homers. However, I believe he was plagued by injuries those last two years as he only played a little over 100 games each season.

My dad was a devoted Yankees fan and grew up in the Mickey Mantle/Whitey Ford era. I remember liking Reggie as a kid when he was on the A's and then liking him more when he went over to the Yankees.

More there than when I lived in Norfolk, VA even and people would assume the most southern of the two states would be worse. Of course this is anectdotal and isn't scientfic proof of anything.
