23. The truth is harsh and bitter medicine

The Trump line of lies is all sweet honey -- because it targets the "other" as a threat and as the cause of much of the Trumpists' hurt. It's simple and hateful but it poses as a problem that can be solved by a wall.

The truth is that the border, first of all, is not nearly as porous, as Trump and his propagandists are oinking about. The truth is that the many, many problems in this country have many, many causes. The truth is that income inequality, the shipping of jobs overseas or down south, are major causes of the problems these people feel are hurting the country. The truth is that to stop the caravanserais from the south, America has to look into the reasons why these people are trekking thousands of miles to escape their homelands -- and what America can do about bettering the conditions that obtain there. The truth is that the economic problems facing America are largely caused, not by immigrants (for cripes' sake!) but by people like our Secretary of Commerce and his boss who are so disconnected from the lives of 100s of millions of Americans that they think an unemployed Federal worker can just dip into his stock portfolio or go to the grocery store and ask for food on the promise of paying for it later. And on and on and on.

My point is, the Trump supporting American workers (like the couple in the video) would rather drink the sweet honeyed liquor of lies Trump and his people are offering them -- offering? more like flooding them with -- than taste truth's bitter medicine. And that honeyed liquor pretty much removes all traces of logical reasoning from their brains with the result, as seen in this video segment, they'll support the very man who is causing them pain.
