The resistance to Northam resigning is rooted in fear that he'd be replaced by a member of the race he denigrated.

(37,648 posts)Maybe it's the other way around. The immediate insistence that Northam resign is rooted in the desire that he be replaced by a member of that race you refer to.
All this mind reading people are doing is getting to a ridiculous height.
Now, not only is Northam a racist as bad as those marching with the Nazis in Charlottesville, where there was violence and a woman was killed, and despite his good political record and apology not able to be redeemed, but also anyone who isn't trying to oust Northam is a racist, too! And I suppose anyone who points out that someone wanting to think about it, or is struggling with it...they must be racists, too. And on and on.
The people of Virginia will decide. They will probably oust him. But not because a politician in California wants them to, any more than the people of California would listen to calls from Virginia politicians to oust a California governor.
It's okay that some people struggle with it. This is a democracy, where the people in a state vote for their govt officials. It's a big deal to interfere with that. It's not like he's in the Senate, where he is a national politician. Aren't we are just a little concerned right now about our elections being interfered with? So it's a big deal that some see this as a reason to interfere with an election, rather than let the people of that state deal with it.
