(493 posts)If history is a guide, Democrats weighing who might be strongest against Trump would be wise to bet on someone fresh: a person outside the party mainstream who has a compelling agenda.
Not Joe Biden, who is offering a return to Obama; not Amy Klobuchar, peddling the illusion of bipartisan cooperation.
If history is any judge, the promise of incremental change and working across the aisle isnt realism; its a pie-in-the-sky fantasy. Barack Obama ran as the great unifier. Republicans scorched him and vowed to make him a one term president..
We need a true populist, someone who is able to detail how Trump has betrayed the very workers he claims to serve and our country in which he has denigrated.
The two most recent challengers that beat incumbentsJimmy Carter and Bill Clintonwere relative newcomers to the national stage who offered new energy and ideas.
Stop and think about this... voters have chosen the fresh face over tried and tired politiciansObama over Senator John McCain, a longtime creature of the Senate, and Trump over Hillary Clinton. If history is a guide, Democrats weighing who might be strongest against Trump would be wise to bet on someone fresh: a person outside the party mainstream who has a compelling agenda. JMHO

(205,805 posts)And I like all of our senators - though I'm conflicted since we really need their leadership in the Senate. The thing that we're desperately missing right now is someone - anyone - who knows what they're doing and has governmental and especially foreign policy experience. VP Biden fits that bill, but every single candidate so far - even the two I'm not familiar with yet - have to be a million times better than Trump!
