Assange is not a journalist and Wikileaks is not the press...
I appreciate Ellsberg's role in history and we need more whistleblowers and people willing to leak (hello - I hope someone leaks the full unredacted Mueller Report!!!!). But Ellsberg was not the press nor a journalist and he is dead wrong here in his opinions on Assange and as it relates to the future of the media/press in this interview.

(8,401 posts)The U.S. Courts of Appeals, in several cases, have ruled that the freedom of the press applies not only to professional journalists, but also to individuals who are gathering information. And neither does the word "press" apply strictly to mainstream media outlets.
I despise Julian Assange, but this is potentially a much,much bigger question than how your or I may feel about Julian Assange.
