Its paper argues that the potentially "extremely serious outcomes" of climate-related security threats are often far more probable than conventionally assumed, but almost impossible to quantify because they "fall outside the human experience of the last thousand years."
On our current trajectory, the report warns, "planetary and human systems [are] reaching a 'point of no return' by mid-century, in which the prospect of a largely uninhabitable Earth leads to the breakdown of nations and the international order."
There are no models anymore to predict the earth's dynamics of heat, food destruction and water.
No military can stop the billion who will migrate. Today's 65 million will jump to 150 - 200 million refugees.
Scale and speed are the only game in town when it comes to stopping climate change.
Start at the 2:00 minute point for Australia's assessment.

The Achuar elders and shamans told me this 25 years ago....I only am observing that we humans aren't doing anything to stop or change course and it may come sooner....

Did not take many years to realize out leaders had no interest in saving people..hell, they were throwing our men into SE Asia as fact as we could produce them.
The oil-igarchs with stolen wealth have been buying up water, land, and meat producing biz thinking they at least will have enough money to flee to some private island, or ranches in New Zealand, because they have massive greed as well as a lack of imagination what will happen when their private paradise collapses due to the climate changes they have ignored.

If we don't work together, we'll die separately.

I have a hunch humans will not perish from earth for 250,000 years at a minimum. Note none of those things we take for granted existed just 250 years ago, while humans have survived for a few million years.

I hope you get that.

Today it is a thriving shining modern bustling city.

(36,060 posts)It will not be the same at all. There will be no help systems from elsewhere. There will be no escape.
Any place humans will think to go, other humans will already have beaten them to it and used up all available natural resources that won't renew because Earth will be on its timeline of thousands of years ahead with no renewable resources in the heat of air, dead oceans and no water. It will slow roll restore, but we'll be gone.
Yours is a another form of climate denial here.
Read The Uninhabitable Earth by David Wallace-Wells and/or Falter by Bill McKibben.

(6,110 posts)With the limited time I have left on this Earth, I am busy making the most of my remaining time as possible. And you will be happy to note that I have done my part in preserving the environment as best as I could. I always set the thermostat high in summer and as low as possible in winters. I drive a Chevy Spark which gives more mpg than any other gasoline powered car and I combine my trips to minimize mileage. And I always recycle carefully and avoid placing toxic materials in garbage.
My bet is the world will end (for humans) due to nuclear wars rather than any other reason. I was born and raised near Pakistan border and I have seen religious fanaticism first hand. Nuclear proliferation is already here.
Climate change denier ignore Earth's history over Billions of years. The last ice age was brutal. The Midwest was covered with several miles high Ice glaciers. When those were melted by the ensuing global warming, the largest body of fresh water on earth was formed which we call the Great Lakes. Yeah so climate change is going on for millions of years. I am convinced humans are not powerful enough to stop climate change. All we can do is do our individual responsibility to cause the least possible damage to the environment.

(6,110 posts)or corporations engaged in farming in a big way. Individual farmers are dwindling.
My own father took up farming after he retired from a civil service job in India. We had some of the best tasting vegetables and grains from the farm. I still remember puree's fried in home grown sesame oil. And the aroma of mangoes ripening wafted through the whole house. The mangoes I get at grocery stores here in Florida have almost no aroma.

(10,533 posts)And so far we are failing utterly to meet the challenge. At a time when we should be reducing our consumption and organizing around global institutions to eliminate carbon-based energy from our lives, the world is hooked on extreme capitalism and its greatest nations seem to be spurning old alliances and turning inward. Oh, and, we have a major political party in the U.S. that still refuses to acknowledge that the problem even exists! It's insanity.

He's better than Biden in age, women's abortion issues(100% from NARAL), progressive leadership that makes Washington state #1 in all major categories.
He's a state executive.
He's got debate attitude, numbers and zingers.
Again. He's presidential.
Where is DU with Inslee.
I don't see the liberals and progressives here giving him a chance.
He might well be our last chance to lead a Western mobilization to stop the march to 2 degrees Celsius.
If we don't get deadly serious about the earth's dynamics and cascading disasters, our children and grandchildren will curse us.
