Plutocracy: Part 1 Divide et Impera (Divide & Rule) Documentary

This 2015 documentary provides remarkable visual images, the product of deep research by filmmaker Scott Noble, interwoven with narratives and analysis provided by an array of contemporary labor historians. This first film focuses on the ways that race, ethnicity, and gender have been used to divide and exploit the American working class. The film was shown on PBS in 2017, and is now airing on the Free Speech channel, https://freespeech.org/ 1 hr., 50 mins.

- Divide et Impera (Divide and Rule). Synopsis: The series examines early American history through an examination of class. Part 1 DIVIDE ET IMPERA includes sections on Mother Jones, the American Constitution; the Civil War draft riots; Reconstruction; Industrialisation; the evolution of the police; the robber barons; early American labour unions; and major mid-to-late 19th Century labour events including the uprising of 1877; the Haymarket Affair; the Homestead strike and the New Orleans General Strike. The introduction examines the West Virginian coal wars of the early 20th century, culminating in the Battle of Blair Mountain. [1 hr 50 minutes].
