Not only was taking this guy out against international law, it backs Iran into a corner where they have to respond and we gain nothing of significance. Stupid. The wise course is to always give your opponent an out. Maybe not completely face saving, but an out, giving them the ability to pull back and reassess so cooler heads prevail....on both sides. Otherwise, you get irrational decisions compounded by irrational decisions. That's how smart people stay out of escalation feedback loops from foreign policy to road rage incidents. Then again, maybe shithead's handlers want this to escalate. And maybe they're stupid enough to think they can control the escalation to their own benefit. Ugh! This will not end well for anyone.

Iran may well have calculated that it's better off with a Democrat in the White House and not a Republican like President Donald Trump.
Logically -- and Iran's leaders are intensely pragmatic in that far-sighted way -- Tehran will likely calibrate its vowed "harsh revenge" response to the killing of Qasem Soleimani in a bid to cost Trump re-election.
