Any one remember The Association?

Any one remember The Association? I'm curious if the hep kids were laughing their butts off to the older fans liking the tune but not getting the lyrics. I am dying to get the scoop!

Parents were alarmed at Woodstock and singers like Janis Joplin. And those clothes and VW busses! And of course ....pot, LSD, and smack. The softer tones of The Association, The Carpenters, and the Up With People movement were welcomed by the 35-65 generation.

My sister received a sort of love letter from her boyfriend which contained word-for-word lines from Cherish. She didn't realize it right away, but I kept saying why does this sound so familiar?? I finally figured it out, but by then it was too late to convince her he was a phony and she ended up marrying him. The marriage didn't last too long.

by the Beatles, just so there was no question about his intent:

I wanna be your lover baby
I wanna be your man
I wanna be your lover baby
I wanna be your man
Love you like no other baby
Like no other can
Love you like no other baby
Like no other can

I wanna be your man, I wanna be your man
I wanna be your man, I wanna be your man

Tell me that you love me baby
Let me understand

And like most of groups within that genre, The Association was comprised of crack musicians, many of them classically trained.

I think I might still have this album somewhere - it came out in about 1967. The song is a lot heavier than their usual stuff - it was a Vietnam protest song. You can also tell these guys had classical training.

#2 was Windy and #1 was Cherish.

Not a typical list. Maybe some payola was involved -- Who knows? But it's kind of amazing for a group many people today have never heard of.

Personally, I like vocal harmony and The Association was very good at it. One of their more uplifting songs that doesn't receive as much attention is:

to jam to Woodstock era music, and we were just floored by how smooth, polished and Professional this band was! I just got to wondering, this sounds like it would appeal to adults of the time, did they get the subversive messages? Really tickled me! Glad so many folks enjoyed the video, and YouTube always leads to more songs that you want to hear....

I was exposed to very little contemporary music in the 60's. But I remember 'Windy' since we had a family friend named Wendie. I remember thinking about this double meaning.
